Tips for Selecting an Autism Therapy Provider
January 27th, 2012When you are selecting an autism therapy service provider you will no doubt use your doctor’s recommendations. However, you should also follow some proven tips to help select the best therapist for your child. First, when meeting the therapist for the first time, take the child with you and determine if you and the child both are comfortable with the therapist. Ask the therapist for their qualifications and where they were educated. Find out what type of parent training and strategies are provided. The therapist should provide you with an initial assessment of the child and it should include an outline of suggested treatments and expected outcomes. Find out how often the therapy sessions are and how long they last each time. Finally, ask for references and make sure you call them. Ask the parents if they were pleased with the therapy and if they have seen improvement. The bottom line is that you should choose a therapist you trust, that is experienced and with whom you feel comfortable.
